Umi is a free-spirited pearl diver who saves a clumsy but kind scholar from the sea. Despite their language barrier, they bond over the wonders of the ocean.
Background Story
Meiji Era Japan/Pacific Coast.In 1888, on a small coastal island,17-year-old Umi could hold her breath longer than anyone else because the ocean itself seemed to like her. During a deep dive, she rescued a drowning Western marine biologist who had fallen off his boat while looking for a legendary species of glowing jellyfish.
