Privacy Policy for Alkove AI

Last Updated: February 4, 2026

Welcome to Alkove AI. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.

Important: How Alkove AI Works (Client-Side Tool)

Alkove AI operates as a client-side interface. We provide the software tool for you to interact with AI, but we do not process your story content or API keys on our servers.

  • Bring Your Own Key (BYOK): You provide your own API Key (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
  • Direct Connection: User interactions happen directly between your browser and your AI provider.
  • Local Storage: Your chat history, stories, and API keys are stored locally on your device.

1. Information We Collect (Server-Side)

We collect completely minimal information strictly to manage your access to the tool and maintain your account settings.

  • Account Information: Email address, password (encrypted), and User ID. We use this to authenticate your login and sync your interface settings (e.g., theme preferences) across devices.
  • Subscription Data (If applicable): If you purchase a premium license for the Alkove AI interface, we process necessary billing status (via secure processors like Paypal). We do not see or store your credit card details.
  • Technical Logs: Standard server logs (e.g., device type, browser version) to ensure the website is running correctly and securely.

We DO NOT store or have access to any of your generated stories, prompts, or characters on our servers.

2. Information Stored Locally (On Your Device)

To ensure maximum privacy, the following sensitive data is processed and stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (Local Storage / IndexedDB). This data is never transmitted to Alkove AI servers:

  • Your API Keys: Encrypted and stored strictly on your device.
  • AI Content: All stories, chat histories, characters, and world settings you create.
  • User Prompts: The instructions and context you input.
  • Uploaded Context: Any files or text you upload to use as context for the AI.

Note: Since this data lives on your device, clearing your browser cache or uninstalling the browser without a backup may result in data loss.

3. How We Use Your Information (Account Data Only)

We use the limited account data we collect (from Section 1) solely for:

  • providing and maintaining the Service (authentication and login);
  • notifying you about changes to our Service or policies;
  • monitoring the usage of the Service to detect and prevent technical issues (e.g., website crashes).

We do not analyze your story content for advertising or model training purposes, as we do not have access to it.

4. Third-Party AI Providers

Since you use your own API Key, you are entering into a direct interaction with the AI Provider of your choice (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google).

  • Data Flow: When you generate a story, the data travels securely from Your Browser → AI Provider API.
  • Privacy: The handling of your prompts and generated text is subject to the privacy policy of the specific AI provider you have chosen to use. Alkove AI is not a party to that data transmission.

5. Infrastructure and Security

We use trusted third-party vendors for hosting and security:

  • Hosting: Vercel, Cloudflare
  • Authentication: Supabase, Google

While we implement industry-standard security measures to protect your account login details, the security of your Story Content and API Keys also relies on you keeping your device secure, as that is where the data resides.

6. Cookies and Local Data

  • Necessary Cookies: Used to keep you logged in.
  • Local Storage: Essential for the functioning of the website (saving your API keys and Chats). You can clear this at any time via your browser settings, but it will erase your saved chats and keys.

7. Your Rights

  • Access & Deletion (Server Account): You can request to delete your Alkove AI account at any time. This removes your email and login credentials from our database.
  • Control (Local Data): You have full control over your creative data. Since your stories constitute "Local Data," you can permanently delete them by simply clearing your local data within the app settings or via your browser.
